Huawei Watch 2 Pro – AndroidWear Smartwatch with eSIM Features

Huawei continues to bring new and innovative devices in the market, after its dual camera smartphone Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro was unveiled. Huawei also introduces a new smartwatch for Android Wear fans, “Huawei Watch 2 Pro smartwatch”, a smartwatch with eSIM functionality.

The smartwatch is similar in appearance with that of the Huawei Watch 2 Classic but under the hood it’s more than that. Nowadays, there is a demand for wearables with 3G connectivity, Apple already entered this world with its Apple Watch 3, while Samsung is already enjoying the benefits of adding eSIM functionality with its popular S2 and Gear S3 smartwatch.

Having an eSIM functionality is a must for smartwatches with cellular connectivity, a traditional SIM card slot even if its a nano SIM slot still takes a lot of space, adding a bit of bulkiness to the smartwatch. The eSIM is the answer to adding a cellular connectivity to the smartwatch. With an eSIM, manufacturers can avoid using a traditional SIM tray, making the smartwatch more slimmer and lighter or manufacturers can add more features and sensors to the device in place of a SIM slot/tray. I think the eSIM is the future, and the path where the smartwatch with cellular connectivity must go.

This Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch, Huawei Watch 2 Pro has a 1.2 inch AMOLED screen with 390 x 390 pixel resolution. It runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 with 4 GB of internal storage with built-in GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity.

With all the excitement for Huawei Watch 2 Pro, sadly it is only available in China right now. But the good thing is the Huawei Watch 3 Pro might pave a way for other smartwatch running Android Wear with eSIM functionality. Right now the smartwatch is available for purchase at JD.com Chinese shopping site and available in Crystal Black, Sky Gray, and Orange. The price of the smartwatch is 2588.00 Yuan or about $400 U.S dollars
